Wayne Hasbargen, DVM

Dr. Wayne Hasbargen is the Founding Owner of RRVH and although he retired in 2022, he still acts as our relief Veterinarian. He graduated from Rainy River Community College with his AA in science and engineering in 1971. Following his AA, he transferred to the University of Minnesota where he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1976. Once he graduated, he moved to Vancouver, Washington and worked at the Vancouver Animal Hospital for about a year before they decided to move back home. Once they got back, Dr. Hasbargen worked for another Veterinarian for two years until he eventually purchased his motorhome which he used as a traveling clinic for about a year. While he was working out of the motorhome, they were working hard at building their home into a fully functioning clinic including a surgery room. They purchased the building that we are still in to this day, in 1980. Dr. Hasbargen’s favorite thing about RRVH is getting to interact with people and meeting old friends. He also loves working the challenging cases. A fun fact about Dr. Hasbargen is that he built a plane from scratch with his brother in 2002 which they later decided to sell. He joined a flying club in his Senior year of college and later on went to receive his pilot's license in 1995. To this day, they take pride in providing quality care to all animals in our community. His favorite animal is trained working dogs because of the service they do for humans.

Melody Nicholson, DVM

Dr. Nicholson originally started at RRVH in 2003 as a technician, then later decided to go to the University of Minnesota to pursue her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. In 2010 she returned to RRVH as a DVM! Dr. Nicholson is devoted to helping pets live healthier, happier lives! Her favorite part of the job is the people, both staff and clients. She provides care for animals but feels she couldn't do it if there wasn't a person attached to the animals. Dr. N's special interests include surgery and client education! In her free time, Dr. Nicholson loves horse camping and raised bed gardening! She has LOTS of animals that include three dogs; Tucker the Blue Heeler, Mac the 3-legged 7/8 Blue Heeler who she rescued from an after-hours emergency, and Graycee the ½ Blue Heeler; one cat that no one ever sees, 7 horses and many cows! Bottle babies are considered pets in her book! Dr. Nicholsons favorite animal happens to be her 3-legged rescue, Mac- he is her true heart dog and the therapy dog she didn't know she needed. Her favorite thing about RRVH is our staff as they are friends to the core and what keeps her sane, or insane depending on the day! A fun fact about Dr. N is that she worked as an LPN for almost 20 years before changing her career path to Vet Med!
